Little Wireless Hotspots...

RoverI'm sure some of you have seen news about these latest offerings from Virgin and Clearwire, needless to say, all you can eat data isn't dead yet. I have a complicated relationship with communication technology. I have an iPhone, an all you can eat account at Skype, and a Google Voice account. At any time if I'm calling you (or you're calling me), I'm answering on my dead as door nails iPhone with lousy coverage (all the rumors about ATT in SF are very much  true) or more commonly, on my PC/Mac running Skype.

The reason that these new offerings excite me so much is that I am beginning to see a world where traditional voice is no longer necessary, and neither is a "phone." Where all I need is a data connection and a device to use it,  a VOIP account, and a headset. In the very near future - maybe this Monday - its going to be me, my PC, a headset and my little wireless hot spot and I'm really looking forward to it.

On a side note, I'm working on my the next piece about compliance in the SMS world, so stay tuned.
