In a reversal of its previous position, the Nevada gaming authority has approved online betting, via mobile devices.
Official state approval was granted for the mobile sports betting application, Leroy's App. Las Vegas-based Leroy offers this application for Nevada residents with BlackBerry smartphones. Now that the application is officially licensed, parent company, American Wagering will now pursue a new approval process for Android mobile devices.
The application uses geo-location technology to verify the origin of bets. Bettors must be at least 21, and have a registered account with the company.
This gives authorities in Nevada a process to keep track of betting and gaming fees within Nevada. It was originally developed by American Wagering, a subsidiary of Computerized Bookmaking Systems and BlackBerry.  The application allows punters access to all of Leroy’s active lines, including straight wagers, parlays and teasers. In-running live betting will be offered on some games.
John English, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Public Affairs for American Wagering, said in a press release, “The approval of the LEROY’S® APP is the creation of a new market segment for sports wagering and I am proud to be a part of its creation here in the United States. The Nevada regulators placed significant challenges on American Wagering to provide a means of offering account wagering on a mobile device whereby we could verify that the bettor was in the state. We rose to the challenge and succeeded.”
