The Tablet Revolution for SMS

January 19th, 2011 13:35

The birth and rise of the popularity of the Apple iPad has been spectacular in 2010, and 2011 promises an introduction of  hundreds of other tablet models to be sold by a variety of mobile operators, computer vendors, consumer electronics companies, mobile phone manufacturers and retailers.  This is an incredible opportunity for SMS delivery networks, since all of those tablets work with apps, and there are loads of apps to send out SMS text messages!

For example, most Android-powered tablets come with a pre-installed SMS app.   In addition, the Apple iPad has a selection of 25 different SMS apps (such as Gogii textPlus, Skebby, Vopium, etc.) available in the iTunes App Store.

The rise of tablets seems like a revolution for users to imagine new ways to interact with their data and media, but it all relies on established communication channels such as email, IM and SMS.  Indeed, most social networking apps really shine on tablets, and are already engaging users with SMS as one of their key interaction channels to share news, thoughts and feelings with friends, colleagues and family.

Smartphones have already increased SMS usage thanks to an improved texting interface (85% of smartphone users use SMS vs 61% of feature phone users).  Tablets will further encourage users to send more messages by bringing a fresh, new & exciting interface to these familiar communication apps.
