According to a new survey by H2 Gambling Capital, despite the Great Recession and global economic climate, the online gambling industry is showing 12.5 percent growth in gross wins.
The H2 report also noted that mobile online gambling platforms have made a noticeable contribution to the growth of Internet betting for sports and casino games.
Adjusting for the FIFA World Cup wins, the increase in gross wins would still have been 11.5 percent.
Specialists H2 Gambling Capital forecasts that mobile gambling in betting will rise by around 14% in 2011, generating US$2.84bn in gross win compared to around US$2.5bn last year, and grow to US$3.14bn in 2012 – a spurt in excess of 10%. H2 also predicts total gaming gross win for mobile phone gambling, including betting, gaming and lotteries, will rise to US$3.6bn in 2011 and US$4.2bn in 2012.Total online gambling wins come in at just a little under £19 million.
The biggest contribution to the growth of the online gambling industry was made by the sports betting sector which contributed £7.78 billion which is an increase of 10.8 percent including the FIFA World Cup Tournament.
Not far behind sports wagering, was online bingo which contributed £1.72 billion an increase of 28.4 percent since 2009, and then online casinos, which contributed £4.02 million, an increase of 13.3 percent.
One surprise, according to the report, online poker generated £3.26 million a modest increase of 7.1 percent with the newly regulated French and Italian internet poker markets contributing to the rise in revenues.
H2 Gambling Capital also revealed that there had been a slight decrease in the number of online gambling web sites available to players since 2009, with 2,400 sites maintaining an active status. This decline is attributed to consolidation, competition and a weaker economic climate.
A newly opened French online gambling market and Italian poker market along with newly regulated jurisdictions in other parts of Europe also resulted in increased growth in the industry. Belgium, Denmark, Greece and Spain all were contributing to the increase in popularity and usage of online gambling services.
