What most are referring to as a megamerger, AT&T has acquired T-Mobile USA for $39 billion. Ranked as the # 2 and #4 wireless carriers, this new union will initially house 130 million subscribers under the AT&T umbrella and hopes to knock Verizon out of the #1 spot. Separately, both companies are notorious for multiple dropped calls and slow data speeds and retrieval, specifically in urban areas like New York City and Los Angeles. Combined, they will gain access to 20% - 40% more cell sites, avoiding the trappings of bad reception. Looks like there is going to be even more iPhone purchasing and tons of number porting. Three conglomerates are now ruling the cell phone world and if you think about it, the manner in which we conduct our everyday. It seems as if smartphones - with all their apps and gadgets, and pics, voice memos, digitized personal assistants - the whole gamut of features and things techy, have made us all, even my 10 year old cousin, hand-held device users. They are ultimately leading us into a hand-held lifestyle. iPads have taken such a big stride in the tablet market, enough where laptops, which first overshadowed the desktop, are now passe. Plastic and hardware get us around now. Apps are slowing becoming modes of business - portable offices. Merchant devices, credit cards, prepaid cards are now our primary form of currency. Where's the Cash? Where's Technology advancing us? Our experts here at MMC Agency are conducting heavy research in the app department, experimenting with new web-based programs and building more aggregating channels with smartphone capabilities. MMC recently launched a mobile-web based division in their first quarter web launch with the development of FoxSportsMusic.com, fusing music and sports in a third dimension. With all these advances in software and programming, the look and feels of smartphones will begin to progress. Forever the iPhone was the beauty standard. Then came the Android. The Droid family served better functionality and gave users an alternative from Apple through Google. New models and looks for smartphones are coming up. Keep your eye out on HTC to see what's next! Albeit scary to move out of our comfort zone and transition into to a hand-held life, the possibilities of where technology can take us is thrilling.
